Background of the Study

The rise of e-commerce platforms has led to an increase in online fraud, posing significant threats to businesses and consumers. Cybersecurity analytics employs advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data visualization to identify and mitigate cyber threats in real time (Chen et al., 2023). These tools enable e-commerce platforms to detect anomalies, predict potential fraud, and safeguard customer data.

In Zamfara State, the growing adoption of e-commerce platforms presents new opportunities for economic growth. However, the prevalence of online fraud threatens consumer trust and the sustainability of these businesses. This study appraises the role of cybersecurity analytics in preventing online fraud on e-commerce platforms in Zamfara State.

Statement of the Problem

Online fraud is a persistent challenge for e-commerce platforms in Zamfara State, resulting in financial losses, reputational damage, and reduced consumer confidence. Traditional fraud prevention measures are often reactive and inadequate to address sophisticated cyber threats. While cybersecurity analytics offers proactive solutions, its adoption in Zamfara State’s e-commerce sector is limited due to cost and technical barriers (Ahmed & Yusuf, 2024). This study evaluates the effectiveness of cybersecurity analytics in addressing these issues.

Objectives of the Study

  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of cybersecurity analytics in preventing online fraud.

  3. To identify challenges e-commerce platforms face in implementing cybersecurity analytics.

Research Questions

  1. What is the adoption level of cybersecurity analytics among e-commerce platforms in Zamfara State?

  2. How effective is cybersecurity analytics in preventing online fraud?

  3. What challenges do e-commerce platforms face in implementing cybersecurity analytics?

Research Hypotheses

  1. There is no significant relationship between the adoption of cybersecurity analytics and the prevention of online fraud.

  2. Cybersecurity analytics does not significantly reduce online fraud on e-commerce platforms.

  3. Challenges in implementing cybersecurity analytics are not significant in e-commerce platforms in Zamfara State.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on e-commerce platforms in Zamfara State, analyzing their use of cybersecurity analytics for fraud prevention. Limitations include variations in technological capabilities and access to fraud-related data.
